CAMP CRAME, Quezon City — A resort manager in Medellin, Cebu was arrested after authorities discovered several endangered and exotic animals being kept without proper permits at a private resort.
The Philippine National Police–Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG), working alongside the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Region 7, conducted the raid in Barangay Kawit following information that protected wildlife was being displayed on the premises.
Seized from the resort were four African spurred tortoises, six parrots, a black palm cockatoo, and two golden macaws, all of which are subject to strict wildlife protection regulations.
Authorities said the suspect failed to present documentation proving legal ownership or authorization to keep the animals. Initial findings also indicated that the wildlife was being used to entertain resort guests.
The manager is facing charges for violation of Republic Act No. 9147, also known as the Wildlife Resources Conservation and Protection Act.
