MANILA — The Senate is set to convene as an impeachment court on Monday at 3:00 p.m., Senate President Alan Peter Cayetano said, as it tackles the impeachment case against Vice President Sara Duterte.
Cayetano issued a letter to senators reminding them to attend the proceedings in their official impeachment robes.
“The Senate shall convene as an impeachment court on 18 May 2026 at 3 p.m. in accordance with the applicable rules and procedure. You are hereby requested to be present at the session hall on the said date and time in observance of the solemnity of the proceedings and pursuant to the Senate rules of procedure impeachment trial,” the letter stated.
He said majority lawmakers have agreed that existing impeachment rules will remain in effect, consistent with previous proceedings.
Cayetano added that copies of the articles of impeachment have already been distributed to all 23 senators.
He also dismissed claims that leadership changes were meant to delay the impeachment process.
