MANILA – The Philippine weather bureau has forecast widespread isolated rain showers and thunderstorms across most parts of the country on Saturday, driven by the easterlies and localized convective activity.
Based on its 4 a.m. weather bulletin, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said that although no major weather disturbance is currently affecting the country, unstable atmospheric conditions will continue to bring short-duration rainfall events in several regions.
The Davao Region is expected to have cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms. PAGASA attributed this weather pattern to the easterlies, or warm winds coming from the Pacific Ocean, which often bring moisture-laden air capable of producing rainfall.
Authorities warned that moderate to heavy rain showers may occur in some localities, increasing the risk of flash floods and landslides, particularly in mountainous and flood-prone areas.
In the eastern section of the country, including the Bicol Region, Eastern Visayas, and Caraga, partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms are expected, most likely developing in the afternoon or evening hours when surface heating is strongest.
For Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao, localized thunderstorms are expected to dominate the weather pattern, bringing brief but potentially intense rainfall, lightning activity, and gusty winds in isolated areas.
Despite these conditions, PAGASA said wind speeds will remain generally light to moderate, while coastal waters across the archipelago will be slight to moderate, allowing for normal maritime operations with precautionary measures during sudden storms.
