MANILA — Residents in several areas of western Luzon should continue to expect intermittent rains on Sunday as the southwest monsoon, or habagat, remains the dominant weather system affecting the country, PAGASA reported.
The state weather bureau said the Ilocos Region, Zambales, and Bataan will experience cloudy conditions with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms. Rainfall may become moderate to heavy at times, increasing the risk of flash floods and landslides in vulnerable communities.
Elsewhere, the Cordillera Administrative Region, Batanes, and the Babuyan Islands will see partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms also associated with the southwest monsoon.
For Metro Manila and the rest of the Philippines, weather conditions are expected to remain generally fair, with partly cloudy to cloudy skies prevailing for most of the day. However, isolated thunderstorms may develop, particularly during the afternoon or evening, due to localized weather activity.
PAGASA reminded the public that intense thunderstorms can still produce heavy downpours capable of causing localized flooding and landslides.
Light to moderate southerly to southwesterly winds will continue to affect the country, while seas will remain slight to moderate, with waves measuring between 0.6 and 1.8 meters.
The weather bureau also said no gale warning has been issued for any coastal area and confirmed that no low-pressure area is currently being monitored within or outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility.
