MANILA – Lawmakers pointed to a new survey showing overwhelming public support for a Senate impeachment trial for Vice President Sara Duterte, with 88 percent of Filipinos expressing approval.

Deputy Speaker Paolo Ortega V of La Union said Friday that the Tangere survey demonstrates a strong public demand for accountability and transparency, with citizens wanting a formal platform for Duterte to address allegations.

He said the results indicate that the call for a Senate trial is no longer just a political issue but a reflection of public sentiment seeking answers.

The April 22–23 survey showed that 70 percent of respondents believe Duterte should personally appear and respond to accusations, while 51 percent want her to provide evidence regarding financial concerns.

Ortega said the findings counter claims that the impeachment process is politically motivated, stressing that the public is focused on clarity and proper explanation of the issues.

House Committee on Public Accounts Chair Terry Ridon said the survey highlights a simple expectation from Filipinos: accountability must be shown through facts and formal proceedings, not statements alone.
