MANILA – A measure seeking to extend the validity of Professional Regulation Commission licenses to five years is expected to benefit over 1.2 million Filipino professionals nationwide.
House Speaker Faustino “Bojie” Dy III said Tuesday that the approved House bill would spare professionals from frequent renewal requirements and reduce related costs and administrative burdens.
According to Dy, professionals including teachers, nurses, engineers, doctors and accountants continuously contribute to national development and should be given more convenient government processes.
The proposed amendment to PRC rules would lengthen the validity of Professional Identification Cards from the current three years to five years.
PRC data showed that more than 1.19 million licensed professionals currently possess valid IDs, representing about 95 percent of all registered professionals in the country.
Teachers comprise the largest group expected to benefit from the measure, followed by nurses, criminologists, civil engineers, medical technologists and physicians.
Dy said the proposal would not only help professionals save time and money but would also improve efficiency by reducing the number of people processing renewals.
The House approved the measure on final reading last week, while deliberations in the Senate are still ongoing.
