MANILA — Residents in Metro Manila and other parts of western Luzon can expect more frequent rainfall after PAGASA officially declared the onset of the southwest monsoon season.
The weather bureau said the declaration follows several days of sustained southwesterly winds, confirming the establishment of the habagat over the country.
PAGASA clarified that while Tropical Storm Domeng has strengthened into a severe tropical storm, it will not be the main weather system affecting most areas in the immediate future. Instead, the monsoon is expected to bring rain showers and thunderstorms over large sections of the country.
Forecasters warned that the rainy pattern could intensify further as the nation moves deeper into the monsoon season, particularly during July and August.
For residents in flood-prone communities such as Barangay Road District in Quezon City, the announcement serves as an early reminder to prepare for possible flooding. Residents said prolonged rainfall often leads to rapidly rising water levels that threaten homes and property.
Authorities have placed warning and monitoring systems on alert to ensure residents receive timely information whenever severe weather conditions develop.
Community members also expressed hope that the ongoing construction of a pumping station will soon be completed, helping reduce flooding that has long affected the area.
PAGASA advised the public to remain vigilant, follow official weather bulletins, and take necessary precautions as the southwest monsoon season brings wetter conditions across the country.
