MANILA — Parts of the Visayas and Mindanao are set to experience wet weather due to a low-pressure area (LPA) currently being monitored within the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), PAGASA said Wednesday.
The LPA was last tracked 670 kilometers east of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur as of 5 a.m. Although unlikely to develop into a full-blown tropical cyclone, the system’s trough is expected to bring scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Eastern Samar, Southern Leyte, Dinagat Islands, and Surigao del Norte.
The rest of the country, including Metro Manila, will continue to have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with chances of isolated rain showers, primarily due to the prevailing easterlies.
In addition, PAGASA is monitoring a tropical depression outside PAR that could strengthen into a tropical storm before entering the country’s monitoring area between late Friday and early Saturday.
The weather disturbance was located 2,395 kilometers east of northeastern Mindanao early Wednesday, moving westward at 10 kph, with sustained winds of 55 kph and gusts reaching 70 kph.
Once inside PAR, the system will be named “Caloy,” becoming the third tropical cyclone for the year.
Light to moderate winds and slight to moderate seas are expected nationwide, with temperatures ranging between 24.1°C and 33.5°C.
