MANILA — The filing of plunder and graft charges against Jinggoy Estrada by the Office of the Ombudsman has reignited public attention on long-running corruption allegations tied to government infrastructure funds.

The case, submitted to the Sandiganbayan, was based on the Department of Justice’s findings involving alleged irregular allocations in flood control projects and supposed budget insertions linked to kickback claims.

If the court finds probable cause, an arrest warrant may soon follow, as plunder is a non-bailable offense punishable by life imprisonment.

Estrada has denied any wrongdoing, insisting that official budget monitoring records do not support claims of insertions. He also reiterated his earlier position, expressing readiness to face the legal process.

The senator remains subject to multiple graft-related proceedings, keeping him under continued legal and political scrutiny.
